Background: KJ Hardy

KJ Hardy is a doctoral candidate at DePaul Unversity where she also earned an MA degree in 1997 from the School of Education. Her degree, in Human Services and Counseling, afforded her extensive opportunities to develop skills around therapy, healing, and professional development. She held a clinical internship with Howard Brown Health Center, where she worked as a psychotherapist.
KJ’s undergraduate degree is from Marquette University in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Her undergraduate studies focused on a double major of Spanish and International Affairs which included a semester in Madrid, Spain and backpacking alone through 10 countries. KJ is an active member of CASE, the Council for Advancement and Support of Education and the American Counseling Association.
KJ currently teaches at DePaul and Columbia College in Chicago. Her classes include a graduate course, Consultation for Counselors, a junior year experiential course, “You, Your Work, and the World”, and a Human Sexuality Seminar. KJ also works at the University of Illinois at Chicago in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences as the Associate Director of Advancement. Teaching, research, helping others on their path to healing, and being a connecting point are key passions of KJ that have all intersected on her current career path.
KJ is originally from Milwaukee, Wisconsin and is proud of her cheese-head heritage. She was an active leader in her college community and as a Resident Assistant began wondering about the therapy process for herself and others. She asked people what therapy would be like, and what kind of people provide therapy. She couldn’t find any answers and for years hoped for a resource: enter this book!
